Committee Report on Synthetic FuelsMRPL was set up as a joint venture between HPCL and Aditya Birla Group in 1987. The 1st phase of the Refinery of capacity 3.69 MMTPA was commissioned in 1996. In 1999, MRPL commissioned the second phase and increased the Refining capacity to 9.69 MMTPA. In 2003, ONGC bought stake from Aditya Birla Group and infused additional capital making MRPL its subsidiary. MRPL has remained a CPSE since 2005 and it was designated a Schedule A CPSE in 2013. The last expansion of the Refinery was completed with the last of the units(Polypropylene Unit) commissioned in 2015. The present installed capacity of MRPL is 15 MMTPA.
Oil and Natural gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) is the Holding Company of MRPL. The share holding pattern is as follows:
ONGC = 71.63%
HPCL= 16.95%
Public holding / Institutions = 11.42%
SHELL-MRPL Aviation Fuel Services Limited is the joint venture between MRPL and SHELL for sales of Aviation Turbine Fuel.
