To assess the hydrocarbon potential, a Multi-Organization Team (MOT) has been constituted on 21st January to carry out re-assessment of hydrocarbon resources of India in all its 26 sedimentary basins which is being undertaken by ONGC in association with OIL and DGH.
The project started on 1st September 2015 & completed on 30th November 2017. This project was completed by 12 teams of 60+professionals located at 7 work centers of ONGC. All 26 sedimentary basins are reassessed in 2017 with 41,872 MMTOE total hydrocarbon in place which is an increase of 49.1 % on previously assessed basins which was done in 1995-96. Out of this total hydrocarbon in place 12076 MMTOE is discovered hydrocarbon & 29,796 MMTOE is undiscovered hydrocarbon.
Basin-wise reports is formally submitted at DGH in hard copy on 19.01.2018. The final copy of all-basin comprehensive report was submitted to MoP&NG on 26.02.2018 and individual basin reports are made available to all the potential bidders & interested readers. The soft copies of the reports and project datasets were submitted to DGH on 14th March 2018.
These 26 sedimentary basins include on land, shallow water & deep water areas which covers a total area of 3.36 million Sq. Kms out of which Onland area is 1.63, shallow water is 0.41 & deep water is 1.32 million Sq. Kms. All the data of these basins are obtained using improved 3D petroleum system modelling to make this data more reliable which can help the companies to take a precise decision on investing in these fields.
