Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri NarendraModi inaugurate the 4th India Energy Forum organised by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas &CERAWeek and also interact with Global oil & gas CEOs and experts through VC on 26th Oct, 2020 interacted.

During the interaction, Hon’ble Prime Minister highlighted that energy is at the center of human development, which is why conversations around the energy sector are important. He said that at the core of the government’s policy is providing equitable access of clean, affordable and sustainable energy to all Indians, for which the country has adopted an integrated approach.

He underlined that with the government taking a series of policy steps to make India an attractive investment destination, there are tremendous opportunities in the energy sector in India. These reforms are translating into increased FDI flow in the sector. Country is taking steps to move towards a gas-based economy and the gas pipeline network is being developed to achieve ‘One Nation One Gas Grid’, Efforts towards expanding city gas distribution networks to assist supply of cleaner cooking and transportation fuels. Highlighted that India is also aiming to become a hub for chemicals and petro-chemicals manufacturing and exporting.

Prime Minister added that the country is working towards reduction of import dependence of fuel through increased use of ethanol, second generation ethanol, compressed biogas and biodiesel, based on the philosophy of sustainable development, India has made efforts to nurture new institutions like the International Solar Alliance, adding that our goal is ‘One World, One Sun, One Grid’. Highlighting the importance of India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, India is strengthening energy engagement with its neighboring countries Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Myanmar. India’s rapidly growing energy sector presents tremendous opportunities to investors. The global industry to become partners in India’s progress and shared prosperity by enhancing India’s production of all forms of energy.

 

The event witnessed participation of around 40 CEOs from the oil and gas sector, with around 28 leaders presenting their views to the Prime Minister. Key stakeholders such as Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, CEO, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company & Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, UAE ; Mr. SaadSherida al-Kaabi, Deputy Chairman, President & CEO and Qatar Minister of state for Energy Affairs; Mr. Mohammad SanusiBarkindo, OPEC Secretary General; Dr Faith Birol IEA Executive Director; YurySentyurin, GECF; and Dr Daniel Yergin, Vice Chairman IHS Markit, UK, shared their inputs on the sector. CEOs of major oil and gas companies, including Roseneft, BP, Total, Lyondell Basell, Tellurian, Shulumberger, Baker Hughes, JERA, Emerson and X-Coal, participated in the meeting.

 

Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Steel Shri Dharmendra Pradhan has invited the global industry and experts to become partners in India’s shared prosperity by enhancing India’s production of all forms of energy. Speaking at the concluding Session of CERA Week India Energy Forum last evening he said that inauguration of India Energy Forum by the Hon’ble Prime Minister is reflective of the importance the Government of India attaches to improve the energy security, architecture and transform our energy landscape at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic is impacting adversely the global energy sector.

 

Shri Pradhan was deeply honoured thatHon’ble Prime Minister Shri NarendraModi inaugurated the event for the first time in which he outlined his energy vision – A new energy map of India, with seven key drivers. The Minister underlined the key message of the Prime Minister about the rapid strides made by India in making universal electrification at village level, Clean Cooking Fuel reach far and wide in the country to each and every household, and nation-wide supply of LED bulbs, leading to massive energy efficiencies, thereby delivering on our promise of significantly reducing energy poverty in the country.

The India Energy Forum by CERAWeek, which started in 2017, has become an annual event. The principle idea behind is bringing together the global energy leaders and experts to India to deliberate on the opportunities and challenges in India’s energy sector. The Minister commended Dr. Daniel Yergin, Vice Chairman IHS Markit and his team for their dedication in continuing uninterrupted with the fourth edition of the India Energy Forum on a virtual platform.

 

During the 3-day event Shri Pradhan had launched the book “The New Map” by Dr. Yergin a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and a global energy expert has presented an objective account of how energy, geopolitics and dynamics of climate change are transforming the energy future.
